ASKING, PRAYING, SEEKING…
Finally, this bible passage ends with a command to “Ask whatever you wish”. This command is proceeded by “and it will be given to you”. Jesus said, Matthew 7:7-8 7“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
We can know God through prayer. Our communication to him revolves around 1. listening to Him (through the Bible we can know and understand the truth about God), and praying to Him. When we pray, we seek God with all of our heart, and we tell him all the difficulties we go through in our lives. Prayer can also be seeking God to take away any areas of our lives that are not pleasing to Him. Sinful areas that need to be abolished and taken away. The passage says, “Ask whatever you wish and it will be given to you”. Any believer who grows and bears fruit in their life, has a desire to pray and to ask God to answer their needs. Many times, we wonder “what shall I pray for today?” and for many Christians it becomes an arduous task of listing out what needs to be prayed for. But Jesus makes it very simple. “Ask whatever you wish and it will be given to you”. Simple as that. But you have to know that God will only give you what you need according to His Will and not what you want according to your own will. Prayer is not asking God what you want for selfish purposes. Prayer is asking God for what He wants to do in your life so that it may bring glory to Him. Christians seek out God’s truth and as God’s truth transforms their lives they can know what it means to bring glory to Him.
Today the church is filled with people who talk about Jesus Christ and may even preach about Christ however, many people who do this may not be true believers in Jesus Christ. A true mark of a Christian is not just a matter of talk, it is about life and how you live it. It is about living a life of complete obedience to the commands of Jesus Christ. It is about living in dependence and surrender to the authority of the Bible as the words of God. It is about accepting and realizing your own sin and that you cannot escape the punishment of God. Only through knowing and trusting Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour of your life can there be true hope for forgiveness and everlasting life with God.
